Letter From Rhys - Week # 37 – A Week Rich of fun!
Feliz Lunes from the tropical paradise of the Republica
Dominicana!
This week was such a blast!
To keep things as simple as possible, on Tuesday, I received and
welcomed my new companion, Elder Rich, to the area! Elder Rich has 4 months in
the mission and fresh out of his training. This guy is so humble but is so
ready for the work! He’s 19 and is from South Jordan Utah! He plays baseball
and is part of a set of triplets. All are serving missions. He’s here and his two brothers are in Africa
and New Zealand. He also has one younger sister who’s 16.
This week has been an adventure because every single day
this week, we made plans and back up plans and they all fell! We did a lot of
walking and contacting this week and we are still exhausted after a nice P-day!
Also, as you all may remember, we are without electricity in our house.
We learned that about 5 years ago someone stole our electric
meter. Soon after, a member hooked our power up directly to the line and we’ve
been stealing power for that house ever since. Luckily for us the power company
doesn’t care and is not going to charge us for it. However, we need to make a contract with
them. Another plot twist!
We can’t make a contract with them because we don’t have a
contract with the house! We are living there illegally!!!! As far as we’re
aware though, the owner is aware we are still here though. So, we not only need
to make a new contract with the electric company but with the owner of the
house as well! Let’s just say we could be another month without light!
Yay! But enough of the unimportant
business!
This Past weekend we had a baptism!!!! WHOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOO!
His name is Romelin and this guy's awesome! He has a super firm testimony in
the gospel and is already sharing it with his friends! He turns 18 next month,
too, so were hoping to leave a lot with him to visit his friends and other
investigators!
Also, at his request, Elder Chu made an appearance at the
baptism! All the Ladies love Elder Chu and the Bishop’s daughter was snuggling
with him during the entire baptismal service. By the way, she’s 15! Can’t
judge, though, stuffed animals are awesome!!!!! And Stuffed Elders are better!
That brings me to our next point! Today we went to a magical
far away place called the Gallery 360! And we went to the Hardware store!! It
was super sweet! We found all sorts of stuff like jacuzzis, hard hats,
sledgehammers, grills, tactical knives, machetes, axes, hatchets, and something
real strange. We think it’s for leveling out concrete, but were not too
certain. here, take a look.
What kind of contraption is this? |
At first, I thought it was a strange new design for a lawn mower! We also found some other stuff that I think my father would really love to have!
A nice table saw and
A new band saw! You’re welcome Dad!
We were also able to go to this awesome Italian restaurant where
they sell delicious huge brick oven backed calzones! Here, take a look!
Rhys and Elder Chu at the head of the table |
We also just happened to be celebrating the 19th birthday of
my companion, Elder Rich! Let’s GO!!!!!!!!!
Elder Chu also made his appearance here as well. The
Waitress thought he was the Cutest thing! Lol.
So far, Elder Chu has been loved and will always be loved by
all! Yeah! Go Elder Chu!
Tonight as well, we also plan on having a nice campfire on
our roof top and we will continue to celebrate my companion’s birthday just a
little longer!
But that’s all for today folks. I hope you enjoyed this week’s
edition, including a nice pun for the subject!
And now to send you off with a picture of a fish made of
bottles and cooking utensils!
And the Crew in hard hats!
