Letter From Rhys - Week #22 - Snow in the DR! I've got Mail!
Feliz Lunes from the tropical Land of the Republica Dominicana!
There’s been lots of work that needs to be done in our area
this week and we’ve been very hard at work. On Tuesday, visited our young man Brian,
who we have been teaching for only about 3 or 4 weeks. We actually finished all
he needed to be taught to prepare him for baptism this past week! Brian is an
awesome kid who’s very intelligent! With our help we downloaded the gospel
library on his phone and he’s been taking advantage of this cool library to
listen to the scriptures while reading. On Friday, when we had his interview,
Elder Dayton, our zone leader, was super surprised on how much of the gospel
Brian knew and understood. For a 12-year-old, he has a lot of enthusiasm for
the gospel and we are now preparing him to receive the Aaronic Priesthood.
We have also been working on Hermano Rafael, who we’ve been
helping prepare for his marriage tomorrow morning and his Baptism on Saturday!
The Family Is super excited to make this step in their lives and have a goal to
eventually get sealed in the temple! After Rafael Has been a member for a year
he will be able to obtain a standard recommend and enter the temple with his
spouse. I know that they are anxiously awaiting for that day though he’s not
yet baptized!
The Eye of Faith is real and this family is using it right
now to move their progression forward! Along, with these two investigators, we’ve
been working with a less active family and helping them make the necessary
steps towards temple sealing as well. The Family has been making changes in
their schedules and work so they can attend church together as a family.
Because they have made their family a priority, we shared and gave them a copy
of The Family: a Proclamation to the World. If you haven’t read it or it’s been
a long time since you have, I encourage you to read or reread it! The
principles it contains are very basic and explains to us the importance of
families in the eyes of our God.
I was also blessed with a package from my family this week
with all sorts of goodies! I was super happy to receive the last two copies of
the Ensign (church magazine), which included the talks given by the leaders of
the church during the October General Conference. A long with those, I got a
nice big bag of trail mix (Super Good stuff)! Sadly, it’s already almost gone.
Sometimes it’s just hard to control yourself! ππ
I also received a couple of bags of beef jerky and summer
sausage! The summer sausage is really good toasted in between two pieces of
bread with some cheese and sweet hot mustard! ππ But wait, there’s
more! If you order now you can get this great 8 round Dominican Republic snow
ball kit for a solid $19.95 with shipping and handling! All you gotta do is
fluff and throw to your hearts content to annoy the heck out of your companion!
[Warning: over usage of this product has been known to cause cancer in the
state of California and possible death by companions.] Really, they’re just big
balls of yarn but it was a cool little thought! Along with this kit, I got 3
more ties and various other things as well, but I was sooooooooo excitited when
I saw my dad’s 7 pepper chili recipe and my mom’s chicken fiesta salsa!
Anyway, back on track. Saturday, we had a baptism!!!!!
YAYAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY! This time,
Brian and both of his parents showed up for the baptism and we had the
opportunity to talk with them about the gospel and how they can also receive
the blessings of an eternal family through the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Today we also took a trip back to the Parke del Este and
played some football (soccer) with the elders of our zone again. It was super
fun and super hot! Luckily, this time, we had water and so we maintained a good
state of hydration through the 3 hours we played out in the sun!
Well Folks, That’s all for this Edition of Elder Wheelers
adventures! Tune in next time to hear more about the events coming soon to a
theater near you!
Until next time!
Going forth with the vision of Christ and an eye of faith,
Elder Rhys wheeler
P.S. There are now more photos of Elder Chu available for
all the world to see. I’ll try to take more, too of more recent events!
