Letter from Rhys - Week #12 - Transfers!!!!

Feliz Martes from the tropical Island of the Republica Dominicana!

Yesterday we were unable to write because there was some sort of fiesta or holiday that caused every place to close down for the day...  But today, we got permission to write.

Also, I got a new companion!!!!!  His name is Elder Portillo (portiyo).  Elder Portillo is from Honduras and has 16 months in the mission.  I’ve only been with him for a couple hours, but he’s still a pretty awesome individual.  The language barrier between us is pretty decent but it won’t inhibit our ability to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

This past week we had what we call a perfect day! On Wednesday, we didn’t have a single one of our appointments fall and all of our discussions were impactful and helpful for our investigators!  Also, our previous P-Day we had the opportunity to go to the coast of the island that was in our area!  It was so awesome to see the light as it shines on the sea.  It’s Blinding really!  It was also nice to hear the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks of the cliffside where we were staying.

While enjoying our fresh, right out of the shell, coconut milk and masa, we watched the sight of the ocean.  We also ended up talking with this guy who’s name I can’t remember and not quite homeless.  We actually talked with him about the message of the Restorationof the Gospel and the Bookof Mormon.

Earlier that day we were expecting some other Elders and when they didn’t show up, we just did our own thing.  Well, as we were talking with this young man about the Book of Mormon, we sadly realized that we didn’t have a copy...  Then out of the blue, the other missionaries show up with Book of Mormons in hand!!!  A mighty miracle if I do say so myself!

We gave this guy the Book of Mormon and he said he was definitely reading it.  He thought that it was cool how a whole bunch of people go to Jerusalem to walk where Jesus walked when they don’t have to, because he came to the Americas!!  That was a cool insight I never had before.

Anyway, though, I got a new companion; I have not moved.  I’m in the same area for the next 6 weeks! That’s not a bad thing!

This past Sunday we had 8 investigators attend church, which is huge for us!!!!  This past Friday we ended up going to the mission office for a meeting of the greenies and trainers! Us greenies spent a good 2 hours with President Smith, who’s a total boss, and talked about the last 6 weeks and how we’ve done in our training.  We then had a combined meeting with both trainers and greenies!  To keep things short, it was super inspiring and the Preachmy Gospel Manual was definitely a work form heaven!

Because of the events yesterday I don’t have any more time to write so I’ll have to end things here.  I’ll try to get some pictures in next week including one with my new companion!

I Love you all sooooo much and I know that this work is moving forward fast!  So fast that 2 years will come and go quicker than you can say...

Going forth with the vision of Christ and the eye of Faith(Truth)😉

Elder Rhys Wheeler!

P.s. Mom I love you so. You too dad! You’re awesome!

P.p.s. Typos are very important!
