Letter From Rhys - Week # 38 – The Chosen!
Feliz Lunes from the tropical land of the Republica
Dominicana!
This Past week we’ve had a blast and quite the bit of rain!
Apparently, the rainy season has started up and we have rain every single day
with overcast constantly. It’s really nice, but doesn’t bring down the heat
much! Nevertheless, this past Monday, like I had stated before, we camped up on
the roof of our apartment! It was super fun, and we woke up the next morning
soggy from the dew! It was nice and fresh, maybe a solid 50 some degrees.
Elder Esserine’s Dominican companion was freezing and
freaking out so hard! It was quite the sight! We also forgot to take the
mattresses back down on Tuesday so we did it again Tuesday night. The skies
were clear with no clouds in sight! About a half hour after we fell asleep, I
woke back up because I felt some water hit my face! It started to downpour in 5
seconds after I woke up and we freaked out a little bit(a lot)!
We had to quickly carry our mattresses under a shelter and
even then we were soaked. However, my mattress was dry! I love microfiber
sheets! They’re super absorbent! All I had to do was change my sheets and I was
sleeping on a dry bed! But my companion was a little less fortunate! His bed,
I’m pretty sure, was soaked through... 😂!
But this week in the obra Del Señor we had many of our
appointments fall once again, but at the same time we did a cleansing of our
investigators! One of the focuses of the mission is finding the Chosen or Elect
people who are just waiting for us to find them, teach them and baptize them
since they have already been prepared by the Lord to receive his message!
Anyway, this week we have found a lot of people with amazing
potential and have jumped on the train of progression! One is a family of 5 and
the parents are super cool! When we first met them, it was entertaining a
little to hear their ideas. The Father first sat down with us and asked ¨So
what do you guys promise”? I was kind of
thrown off by the question and at the time I didn’t know how to answer so I
just started explaining our purpose as missionaries!
He then explained to us that they were Christian and they
believed that any church was acceptable to the eyes of the lord. “Except the
Catholics. They’re the Whore of all the Earth” his words not mine. Though I was
slightly amused that someone would say that!
On that note, eventually we got on the topic of the
restoration, including the Book of Mormon and how we have a living prophet in
our day. These guys were so awesome and enthusiastic about our message that
they took upon themselves the commitments we were going to extend to them
without even having to say them. They were truly being taught by the Spirit and
I firmly believe they were prepared by the Lord.
We also have had a couple others including a few young boys
who are preparing for baptism for this weekend! Let’s Go!!!!!! To finish off
the day, we were able to clean our house really well today and I started the
adventure of washing my clothes by hand once again! This will be so much fun!
Ya tu Sabes!!!!!! [you know] You all can look that up! or my mom will do it for
you all and write the translation in parenthesis! Whatever is easier, Mom!
Well that’s all for this week’s adventures with Elder
Wheeler! Next week, I’ll try to include a few more super fun stories if they’re
available! See you all later!
Going forth with the vision of Christ and an eye of Faith,
Elder Rhys Wheeler!
P.S. Mom Typos! It’s fun for you I’m sure! I Love you!!!
